The Gothic Killer Clown
Completion Date:
December 2008
Synopsis:
The Gothic Killer Clown is a music video for the band Fifi Larue, a KISS-style rock group with over-the-top performances and lyrics but a fun vibe. The video is a performance-only piece, minimal budget and minimal crew, enhanced with an animation filter to give it a fun, crazy style that, combined with wild camera work from Eric Petersen and Michael Woxland, makes it energetic, colorful, and fun.
Director’s Statement:
I had a lot of fun making The Gothic Killer Clown because it was a low-stress project and shoot. I also had low expectations of how the video would turn out because it is the lowest budget project I have done to date, and the only time I have shot a performance-only piece. I have to admit I had a lot of apprehensions about it, and thought it would be at best a decent video, but I find myself continually rewatching it because of the energetic camera work and fun style. I love the constant use of zooms to add energy to the shots, and I love the animated look, which I feel enhances the colors a lot. It is the most colorful video I have done, with shots containing vibrant reds, yellows, oranges, greens, and blacks all at once. For a performance-only video, I think The Gothic Killer Clown is lots of fun.
